Need help understanding how to request a web page from the Internet

I can request pages from any application on my local network. I don't understand how to do the same from the internet. When I try, the Spinneret just waits for the socket to open.

Does anyone have sample code that shows how to request a page from the Internet?

I finally got it to work. My ISP blocks port 80. All I had to do was assign a port to the Spinneret other than 80, like 5001
