Hello All:
'
I've been working with Diptrace freeware Ver. for a few days now and I'm ready to try out what I've learned or need to improve on by sending out the Gerber's for a small board to be manufactured.
'
My question: Is there a standard size board?
'
I see a lot of ads with "Two boards, two layers, two masks" $9.95 ea.
'
How big are these boards?
'
What I want to send out is just two 74HC165N's (16 bit shiftin reg all on one board) Nothing fancy.
The board size is 1.5" X 2.5"
'
I could use a little insight before I send the Gerber's out.
'
Thanks in advance for any help here!

You need to check the board fab's website. The per-board size limit is usually given in square inches.

It looks like one square inch. I hope I'm reading it wrong.
    '
    Does this sound right?

I should hope that's not even close. Advanced Circuits, for example, has a max of 60 sq. in. per board for their full-spec proto service and 192 sq. in. for their bare bones proto service. Most vendors have a minimum size, too, so the board doesn't get sucked up in the vacuum when they're routering it out of the panel.

Who is the vendor you're considering?

    I'm up for suggestions?

I've used AP Circuits. They're okay, and their maximum board size is definitely not 1 sq. in. The minimum billing size per side is 1 in., though. Maybe that's what you saw. But, with a 1.5" x 2.5" board, that does not apply to you, since both dimensions are bigger than one inch.

    I guess I haven't been clear here,sorry.
    '
I was wondering what the size of the board was for their $9.95ea. service was?(how many sq.inches?)
    '
I see other PCB houses with similar price offerings. But I'm confused as to the board size for this price.
    '
If I plug in 1.5" by 2.5" in the get quote. The price goes from 9.95 to 42.95. Is this the norm?
    '
    Does $43.00 sound right for a 1.5" x 2.5" 2-layered board?

Ah, I see. That's a reasonable price for two boards and is cheaper than Advanced Circuits for boards that size. You just have to pick the vendor with the best pricing for the boards you're producing. Also be sure to factor in the price of shipping. AP Circuits uses FedEx exclusively. With Advanced Circuits, you can get things shipped a lot more cheaply.

My wife asked me to take up something less time consuming like gardening,So I did.I only had 3 I/O pins left on my BS2 and I needed 16 more inputs to monitor the new garden!

    Gardening seems really expensive!
