Where to Place Protection for Hall Sensor 90217

I am using a pair of 90217 Hall Sensor in a marine application where the Propeller microcontroller is about 15 feet away from the sensors through a pair of cat5 cables. The sensor is powered by 5+volts and comes into the propeller via a 1K in line resistor. I am also running bilge float sensors (reed switch), transmission switches and a 1-wire line to temp sensors through the cable as well. It all works fine on the breadboard but ...
... in the noisy engine room (4 engines, generators, pumps, blower fans, etc..) , should the protection components (e.g. capacitor, diodes, resistors) for the hall sensors be located with the hall sensor or on the controller board with the propeller ? Should the pull up resistor for the one-wire be at the end of the line or is on the board OK?
