Why not FT232BM instead of FT232RL with Propeller?

People use FT232RL with Propeller which is an SSOP package.
The FT232BM appears to be identical except that it's a LQFP.

Why does no one use the FT232BM ?

Is there some functional reason to use the FT232RL instead of the FT232BM?

Have a look at FTDI's website regarding the differences between the FT232R and the FT232B chips. The FT232B is considered obsolete while the FT232R is the current generation of USB to serial adapters.

The "BM" package is leaded while the "BL" and "RL" packages are lead-free.

Also, the FT232B-series chips need an external crystal. The 'RL does not, permitting a smaller overall footprint.
