Hey gang,

It's about time to start getting some dates on the calendar for the UPE '11 events. First up, UPEC Chicagoland.

We had a decent turn out last year. Who's up for this year? May-ish?

Great, great time at the last UPEC. I wouldn't miss the next one for anything!

Please move UPEW to late winter/early spring!
End of June is just too hot in California's central valley.

Feb 25th or April 29th coincide with some school holidays this year.

Make UPEC in April, then everyone can bring me a birthday present for my 50th! Just kidding, I am there anytime you can arrange it Jeff.

Hi Jeff- thanks for organizing these events. I would love to make it to UPEW this year. I should be in California most of May and early June- would be great if you could schedule it then.

If there's a UPEC, I will do my best to plan to attend.

I will plan to attend UPEC again this year if you have one. UPENE and UPEC are relatively easy for me to get to if my schedule permits. I'll need to see if I can work out UPEW too, sometime.

Count me in for Chicago, anytime.

For UPEW, maybe it would be better for Parallax (or not) to avoid "Fiscal Year End". (or maybe that works good for them??)

There was talk of possibly adding additional locations, do you have a "broad stroke" schedule for the entire tour laid out yet? Some of us "groupies" need to start planning vacation time...

I'm in for UPEW whenever. If I gotta fly anyway, I might as well go to the source. (Anybody thinking of doing a UPE-south for those of us in the southeast quadrant of the country?)

I would try to make UPEC depending on work, and class schedule. Chicago is about 6 hours drive, and from what I've read, the drive would be well worth it ;-)

I think Steve has a good idea that we should consider. June is so hot in California and because the size of the UPE crowd is always increasing we may need to open up an outdoor tent this year. This only works in Spring in the Central Valley.

February is too early, however. Mid-May could be better.

OBC makes it look easy to be OBC. How does he deal with us?

I love this idea! Yes, CA is hotter than the surface of the sun in June.

I'll be making calls soon and will report back!

(I've got Ken fooled. ;) Seriously, this crowd makes this job a joy!)

Aren't the passes still snowed in then? I'm trying to figure out if the camp sites will be open by then or not.

OBC, count me in for ALL the events. Been to every one so far. Don't want to break the trend.... ;-)

Let me know if you need me to bring the projector to any of the ones I'd be driving to. I got a new HD projector. :-)

    Hi Jeff,

First, thanks for all of your work on setting these up. If I can help with UPEW, please contact me.

In your planning for UPEW 2011, which your blog says is planned for May, please factor in that the Maker Faire Bay Area is scheduled for the weekend of May 21 and 22.

My wife and I were at the 2010 incarnation -- we'll be at 2011, too!
Mark us as +2 for attendance.

Parallax Events Calendar has dates for some 2011 EXPOs.

June 25, 2011 UPEC --> Unofficial Propeller Expo Central.
Central? Is this what used to be called Chicagoland?

The world changes fast enough for me already.
How can I be expected to keep these name changes clear in my head?
    I need some stability, please.

I'm willing to attend Chicagoland again. Any chance we can move it closer to (or better yet into) WI since there were so many of us last year. ;)

I'll get that "Central" thing fixed when everyone gets back from holiday. :)
The expo naming convention will be adjusted when new locations are added using UPE+state abbreviation.
To prevent confusion, this will only be done with new locations.
(We don't want UPEW to become UPECA just yet.)

The official page is online at: http://www.propellerpowered.com/expo/
Signups (Required RSVP) will be turned on Jan 2011.

    Happy Holidays All!

    Hey OBC,

I sure am glad you didn't try to have UPEC this week. We just got hit with one of the 5 worst snow storms in Chicago history. I spent 4 1/2 hours this morning trying to move the snow off the sidewalks and into the yard. Hopefully May will have more pleasant weather :-)

    @Chris,

Hope you looked twice! http://www.propellerpowered.com/expo We actually moved UPEW to May and UPEC to June.

This was done in an attempt to beat that CA heat that we endured last year at UPEW.

    Bruce,

All UPE events are "user driven" events. While there are some commercial products, (stipulated that they pertain to the Propeller in some way) The focus is on people using the Propeller. Folks are encouraged to bring their Propeller projects, (finished or unfinished) to work on, display, or even present. The "feel" of the expo is a bit like the old computer shows of the 1970s or even computer club meets of the 1980s. I like to maintain the reality of actually playing with the Propeller and really try hard to steer away from too much glitz, and that plastic "fake" feel that you get from so many products or shows.

While there in an entrance fee for adult attendees, (started this year to insure that folks honor their commitment to attend, and defray some costs) There is no charge for booth, tables, etc.

A good time is had by all with food, raffles, freebies, and products.

I can spare the space, no problem. However. You need to be aware that UPEC is upstairs. There is a small elevator.
Also, I'm not sure that you wouldn't be sharing power with 100 other attendees.

    Otherwise.. Feel free. :)

We have a wedding scheduled for this summer - not enough money for a trip to Chi-town. Hopefully next year.

We're still on for UPENE in Norwalk, though. Are we still looking at 11 Aug?
