USA government gone crazy? Will this lessen your air travel? Any solution to privacy issues? How sensitive has travel become in the USA? Attorneys are now involved in this.

I saw this and got the last seat aavable on the train for Xmas..

I have some personal prefs on this .
the agents doing the job . there education . and the need . and the right and responsibility Are all parts that need reviewing ..

some TSA are Retired MPs or PD that understand the job but to many are not qualified to do a Very touchy job ( bad pun) .

Full disclosure . I am a member of Civil Air Patrol .who works with DHS on some missions ... Not me personally but the Civil Air Patrol does .

That said I feel the TSA is pushing there luck .
it won't take much for the allreaddy ticked traveler to vent to a man in blue .

One photo of a hollywood actor or a fortune 500 CEO on the web and Ill bet franklins there will be a HUGE lawsuit .

the X-ray ones are NOT safe . mm Ones are On the whole more safe . but I have heard they cost more .

Iam NOT a physicist but I do understand ionizing VS non Ionizing radiation..
Xrays and the like have a cumulative effect .
the RF in the mm Scanners are mostly harmless .

All RF can do is heat skin like a IR heat lamp . that if Baked for hours like a turky in teh microwave may casue cell death .

In fact the agents are the most in danger with those Xray scanners .

Now about the enhansed pat downs ..

I have a solution I gave to the US congress and senate last week .
Use a 3rd party to over see the TSA at a airport level .

Yes it will cost $$ but it may reduce fears and it WILL reduce the Bad agents Very fast .

think of a patient advocate of sorts to BE there as you get patted down .

the advocate would be like a lawer in a police inter view .

    same concept .

Now if the TSA was held accountable like a Local Officer of teh peace or what not then there may never be a need for this advocate .

but there almost untouchable status makes the matter worse .Way worse .

there is the issue with education .

I know many agents are not out to Get you or get the goodys from a search,
But more then a hand full are RUDE and Inepet to the point of stupidity..

    OK fact sheet here ...
I had a agent at LAX think my SLR needed a peek in to and wanted to SWAB MY MIRROR IN MY $6,000. CANON SLR . Oh Hell NO !!!. ( after a full x-ray mind you ) .
I muttered the name of the head agent at ONT AP ( other big AP in LA area ) ( his dad taught my college class on soldering ) and hot shot greenhorn turned white as a ghost ..

I think a BS in science and a BS in Criminal justice should be the minimum requirements ..

    6 Sub-Cs NiCds is not C-4 .. * fail * ..

    I don't like how its ran ..
personaly I wish we were back to shoes and metal detectors. and swabs ..

and let US take care of a Idot on a plane our way ...

trust me 1 dumb bum with a boxcutter is not a match for 300 other cranky flyers with the same . after 9/11 Il bet normal citizens will rise to a hostile challenge if one presents it selves again mid air ..

    ......

    Now to the Numbers game...

more people die each year from ladders then the last 10 Years in terrorist attacks ..

you are more likey to die on the way to the AP then from the terrorist.

And I hate to say this but there winning !!!!! Why because there Ruling OUR lives . terrorism does not need to be deaths but sever economic impacts and forced changes in our ways of life are forms of terrorism too....

at this point its a giant posturing contest ..

    I prefer not to fly.

I went into a fortune 500 company and had to wait in line and one of the security guards says that when these men and women put on these (he called them monkey suites without disrespect to race) uniforms then authority goes to their head a lot of times. The fact is if they don't know what they are looking for they won't find it.

The problem is they can't analyze all of the cargo so making people go through scanners is just for show.

Peter is right. The scanners are not safe for two reasons. The skin on the testicals are thin. Officials say you won't receive any more radiation than flying but the truth is that pilots have more girls than the rest of the population and no one knows why that is. So if it is already unsafe that pilots have more girls than the rest of the population then what is it doing to you?

Radiation from radio towers heats up the molecules in your body but it is also illegal to enter into evidence in a court of law if you were a lawyer and wanted to block a radio tower from going up. I've lived near an antenna farm where we had filters on our phones and we couldn't use the regular phone because a radio station would come through our TV and our phone.

Did you ever look at those new HDTV antennas that the tv stations have on a tower? They may look small but the forked part are the size of a tractor trailer.

exactly .. RF is not good eather . but On the whole I would rather "bake " then "glow" .

your right the dose is low but it a skin cancer issue .
no you wont get prostate cancer from it but melanoma and other skin aliments are a issue for your tissue ..

most of us don't travel enough to glow from a back scatter Xray bu the poor saps that commute from boston to NY city daily and pilots and flight attendants and the TSA are the ones who will really glow like homer Simpson after a year ..

TSA needs to go. It's all a show in the name of "safety". We are not safer. The TSA and select government officials not to mention all the airline workers are allowed around the plane with no searching. They are testing our limits, pushing us, violating our constitutional rights which they have been doing for some time now (patriot act). TSA needs to go, career politicians need to go, and the traitors in our government who have been violating the constitution for years need to go at the end of a noose...

    Here comes a Ben quote...
"Those who would give up Essential Liberty to purchase a little Temporary Safety, deserve neither Liberty nor Safety."

The solution to terrorist attacks on planes was to lock the cabin door and check for explosives. I would go further and allow citizens to be armed on planes (as the 2nd amendment supposedly guarantees). Everything that has come after that is 100% ineffective and is highly reminiscent of a totalitarian style government conditioning it's people.

I truly hope the American people have had enough and start to stand up.

    /end libertarian rant

Is thread is dangerously close to being considered political, but honestly the two most important changes in security have been 1) The pilot is secure behind a hardened door and 2) The pilot can now roll the plane if funny business is going on. I've got an AMA request thread on reddit for a TSA agent to report that they actually stopped an explosive from going on a plane... so far.. no answer.

Just what would it take to roll an airbus? What a ride.

Heard that Israel has a better idea, just make everyone walk through a machine that detonates any explosive device. :) Seems fair to me.. :)

    Oh HELL YEAH!
All it would take is one or two stupid persons to go into the booth and come out in plastic baggies and no one would ever do it again. Period.

I agree. Humanoido included the words "Prop Chip" in the title as a not-very-clever disguise for a thread that has nothing to do with the Propeller. I'm surprised he didn't add his little self-aggrandizing "thumbs-up" widget to it as well.

Political and Prop both start with a P!!!

haha. but seriously, A little mature political discussion can't be that bad can it? I think it's great so many people are taking notice to the Governments travesties against it's citizens. And I think it's even greater to be on a forum that doesn't stoop to name calling and cursing. I have only been on one other forum capable of that. And it's a gun rights forum.

    ..Key word as indicated above..

    :)

What I want to know is this...
"The TSA now has the authority to..." As quoted in today's news on a local channel... Who gave them that authority? Them selves??

    Ok, rant over..

Phil, I didn't know widgets were self-aggrandizing. That's a first! LOL! Seriously, some air travel is a likely consideration to/from Parallax, with prop chips, and this issue seems very important serious and sensitive. How should we handle it? (er, no pun intended!) Not many options here... boat could take about 2 months to arrive from overseas (too slow), and bus, car, train are not optional over the ocean. As the man said, "Touch my junk and I'll sue you." For now, all USA flights will be postponed.

Were you planning on permanently attaching your Propeller projects to your junk? If not, I'm sure you'll be fine.

...a not-very-clever disguise for a thread that has nothing to do with the Propeller.

Strangely enough for me this is very topical. You see, having seen what a great time has been had by all attending various Parallax happenings over the past couple of years and being stuck out here in Finland, I have started to harbour a dream. That dream is to make my first visit to the states to attend the shindig that will occur on the launch of the Prop II.

Now, if on arrival on US soil some TSA gorilla starts messing with my Propeller I'm going to be mightily put out.

Just for the record, the use of the word "junk" in the context of this issue refers to parts of the human anatomy, not electronics. It's a slang, mostly comical reference to male reproductive organs. The man who warned "Touch my junk and I'll have you arrested," was not concerned about his laptop or his cell phone.

I can't tell if you missed my sense of humour or not.

Just for the record, the use of the word "Propeller" in the context of my post may, or may not, refer to anything made by Parallax Inc.:)

I think many of the TSA are doing a job and are just following orders.

The problem is the 9-11 Hijakers were from foreign origin. Timothy Mc Veigh was allegedly the only American that did anything and there may be a few others.

The problem is because of political correctness, no one wants to point the finger at anyone. Most of them are foreigners that are causing the problem and because our country wants oil or trade from their countries then it is an impossible job to close the borders to those countries.

We know who they are really looking for but they make someone here take their shoes off to prove they aren't racially profiling.

This is my low key response as to not upset anyone but until they point the finger at those responsible, I think that innocent passengers will pay a price. And imagine being blamed incorrectly. You can be in jail indefinately with no rights. You can lose your house and your mortgage. You can have your car reposessed. You can't see the evidence in front of you to defend yourself.. A lot of problems with the system today.
