Parallax RFID Serial to USB.

Hi,
I'm new to RFID and such technology.
I just purchased an RFID serial board from
Radio Shack in curiosity and the urge to start learning something new.
I plan on gettin an Arduino UNO to go with this project I have in mind in the near future.
But for now I am curious if there is a way to splice a USB cable to work with this receiver, with out using any other source. Just the receiver to a USB port.
I am using "Mac Os"X as my operating system and "Processing" as my code writer.
Any help with wire diagrams on how to do so and coding would be greatly appreciated.

If the RFID board is serial you can get a USB to TTL Serial cable to connect the reader to your computer.

Any way I could just plice a cable together? Seems like a waste of
money for a simple cable.

You are going to need to convert RS-232 to USB. There is really no way around it. It would require something like a Parallax USB2SER

or a MAX232 chip.
