What I have

Wifi signal

Computer with windows 7 home premium and gigabit ethernet
Tablet with gigabit ethernet and wifi card. Windows XP

Lots of cat5 cable, ends, tester, and crimper

Gigabit switch

How can I without spending any money(wife won't let me) connect the pc to the internet. I am not allowed to run cables back to the router but it is mine.

I'm not sure what you are asking. You have a wifi card but cannot connect to the internet (router)? Is it a weak signal? Can you run a cable outside the house, through ductwork or through the walls? I suppose you could be creative and run a wire along the wall under carpets so no one could see it.

I saw some low cost solutions for wireless N but don't know if their tiny size will deliver:

    This might fit the bill:

I had a horrible experience with Netgear. I suppose I got a bad unit. I use a more expensive Linksys.

Thrift stores, Ebay, used computer stores, colleges that throw away a lot of computer equipment. Some computer clubs have swap meets and white elephant sales.

A technician who stole from my house said that it was possible to convert the existing wires of the phone and send the signal over the phone lines. I'm not sure how that would be done but you could research it.

Yes I know how to use a phone line but won't work here. I was hoping there was a way I could run a cable between the 2 computers and have tablet act as router. I know how to do in linux but not in windows

    Maybe something like this:

    My google keywords were:

how to make your computer act as router

If your tablet has xp or something then you might be able to follow the advice from the link. I don't know what you have and I've never had a tablet to be able to advise you.

The XP machine is to share it's wireless internet connection to your wired desktop. Ok, I haven't done it, but if you search the internet or windows help on your tablet for "internet connection sharing" you might find the answer.

Those links are both for making an adhoc wireless network. Were you go from wired network to wireless. I need to go the otherway around. The wireless has iinternet the wired is between them. May be muted point though. Looks like my wreless in tablet may have just died

Sharing via the properties window of the network connection on the tablet would honestly suck really badly. I know I have checked the hare this connection on the properties of the network card on a comp before but it didn't work well. I think once you run a network cable from the tablet to the pc you go into network setup in the control panel and look for shared network. I haven't done it in such a long time I cant remember the exact way . Sorry for typos I'm on my evo.

XP can share internet connections with other computers on the network. Set up XP on tablet to share internet access, connect PC to tablet with crossover cable, and set up W7 to access ethernet via local network.

Tell you what. I've got a good wireless router (Belkin) which I don't need any more. I think you can use it as a bridge to connect to your ethernet port.

You pay the postage from New Brunswick and its yours.

I'd still look into a PCI wifi card (if I could find a spare one around here I'd send it). This is a more elegant solution than routers. You can find those really cheap at computer swap meets and such. A lot of people use old PCs running linux for routers as well.

As wjsteele says, enable internet connection sharing on the tablet, which basically creates a software router that lives in the tablet. Then wire your other box to the tablet and walla you have internet. I've done it many times, it works really well, and it's very easy.
