Yes! I like this! Now we'll see if my theory (about the Prop forum gathering flotsam due to being at the top) holds any water. :)

I think was a good idea to move the old 'Sandbox' up to the top and change the name to 'General Discussion'.

    Works for me!

The only other change I would recommend is to move the classified section down one more so it it between the projects and the test forum. I think the completed projects should come before the classifieds.

    I like this.

My concern is that there is nowhere to put "off topic" posts, and having no place to put them, they will land here.

Isn't that what "General Discussion" is? Same as Sandbox.

Yes, the forum description has not changed. However this is a good opportunity to clarify the purpose of the forum.
Topics related to the use of Parallax products but not specifically addressed by an individual forum.

I'm sure we are all aware that many posts in the former sandbox forum severely stretched or completely ignored that description. It would be good to have a place for such chatter, it is not reasonable to expect to build a community then not have an appropriate place to discuss off topic things.

My preference would be to keep the General Discussion forum description as it is and encourage everyone to follow that guideline, and create an off topic forum for things that really have nothing to do with microcontrollers, sensors, robotics etc..

We normally refrain from political and religious discussion, at least, I believe, that's the rules of the forum. Adult oriented discussion would be squashed at a moments notice, given the wide range of ages that visit this site.

The only changes that I can see is that the Sandbox was renamed General Discussion and it was moved to the top of the list. The description is the same as before.

So far just about all of the posts in this particular forum have been appropriate.

If a subject is that 'off-topic' then it probably doesn't belong on the Parallax forums at all.

For people that that want to post completely off-topic stuff go to a different site altogether. However, if you feel compelled to create an obvious off-topic post then put it in the 'Test' forum that no one cares about.........

Egads! I feel so generalized now!

Then again.. This might be an improvement! I'll quit getting sand kicked in my face and I won't have to spend 15min a day!!

I think the only difference, content-wise, is that those posters inclined to post non-Parallax-related stuff might be more abashed about doing so, given the forum's new prominence at the top -- or maybe not. :)

    No way Jose!

It is my impression, and I support it, that political, religious and 'adult' discussion are not welcome on this forum.

Off topic in this sense would be like - "Hey my daughter just got married, here's some pictures of the wedding".

Hey Loopy - I made it; bumpy ride, but here safe and sound.

So far the weather has been agreeable thought very windy. My host mentioned that a nck name for Hsinchiu is "wind tunnel".

    @Davejames
I can't quite sort out if General Discussion requires a different topic protocol than the Sandbox at this point, so I will just presume it is the same as usual until I am told not to do something.

So you are now in Taiwan's 'Windy city', also known as the Silicon Valley of Taiwan. The weather has turned a bit cold, try a ginger duck hot pot and pick up a sweater at a night market or department store.

You asked me about Taipei weather, not Hsinchu. That wind chill factor can be nasty. Stay warm, have fun, ask a girl to take you shopping.

Yes, Hsinchui not Taipei. I was confused as to the final destination. So far the temperature has been quite nice although as mentioned, very windy.

I'll check out the duck pot.

    Later,

    DJ
