ViewPort Problem Connecting to Propeller

I have just downloaded and setup VievPort v4.4.5. However have problem connecting to Propeller. When I try to start a connection I get the following message :
Unable tro open a port
COM1 : IO Problem : Parameter Error
However F7 finds Propeller on COM1.
The board I am working on is specially designed for the project and uses 5 MHz crystal. I am not using a Prop Plug. I am connected to RS232 serial port of my PC using the 3-transistor circuit given in www.parallax.com/Portals/0/Images/SerialToPropeller.jpg or alternatively using a MAX232 circuit I had originally developed for BasicStamp. In both cases I have no problem in connecting and using Propeller Tool but fail with ViewPort. I have a feeling that using Prop Plug and the USB port may solve the problem but is there a solution using the serial port.
Thanks,
