this is a very obvious question and i feel a little naive for asking because i know the answer. but whenever i have the prop connected to my PC and i plug in anything (even a mouse) the propeller resets.

if i installed a switch (or a jumper) between the prop plug and pin 11 (RESn) that would stop the problem and i just flip the switch (install the jumper) when im ready to flash a program to it??
is there a different way??

I have found this to be a machine issue.I have an older PC 32bit running XP-Home that resets the Prop. My newer PC a dual-core machine running XP-64 doesn't reset the Prop. Also my laptop, a dual-core machine running Vista 32bit doesn't reset the Prop. When plugging something else into the USB header.

All three machines are running a WinOS, And they all have intel CPUs. All are USB 2.0

I have seen a lot of other users posting the same USB problem, So your not alone!

What O.S. are you using? Win,MAC,Linux???
What brand of CPU do you have???

It would help a lot of forum user to put this bug to bed!!!!

if you are using windows xp, try putting a /noserialmouse command after all of the other ones in your boot.ini file.

    you know:
    multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\Windows="blah blah" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect ... /noserialmouse

    try this
    1. Run device manager - start menu->right click computer manage->device manager
    2. View devices by connection

Plug in the prop connection, search through the devices until you find it, note the USB root hub its connected to.

Plug in the device that resets the prop, search the devices until you find it, I expect its on the same USB root hub.

Try different USB connections and see if you can find one that doesn't connect via the same USB root hub. Note, any thing connected via the same usb hub is connected via the same USB root hub. That may not reset the prop.

The reason is when you plug in a USB device, the PC enumerates the devices on the USB bus, that is all the devices on the same USB root hub.
