Anti-paparazzi CCD detection? (On $1.2 Billion Yacht)

The last yacht at the following link (1. Eclipse) says...

"Eclipse has 2 helicopter pads, 11 guest cabins and 2 swimming pools. It also has several hot tubs and disco hall. You can find 3 launch boats and mini submarine that can submerging to 50 meters. The yacht is operated by 70 crew members. This yacht was constructed by Blohm + Voss in Hamburg, Germany. It’s fitted with intruder detection systems and a German-built missile defense system. It’s also reported to be equipped with an anti-paparazzi shield in the form of lasers that sweep the surroundings, and when they detect a CCD. It’s such a luxury yacht with high technology inside."

Anyone know how this device could detect a CCD (electronic camera)?

CCD...

Reflection from the camera lens. The laser acts similar to a radar search and when it gets a bounce it notes the position. I imagine being on the water tends to make this rather simple as there are not too many lens to locate. The claim about CCD could be all smoke, or might refer to cameras.

Most likely it merely saturates the CCD with infrared, in effect blinding it. That would be easier than detecting camera lenses and then... and then what? What are you going to do to the camera guys once you detect them? send out your trained candir

Apparently, CCD arrays combined with a lens are retroreflective. This property is used in some movie theaters to detect pirates filming the screen. But scanning a theater indoors is a whole lot easier than scanning the perimeter of a boat on the water, and the distances are much greater. I smell hype being dressed up as substance and sold to the ignorant rich. (The whole boat is probably wired with Monster cables, too, accounting for half its cost.)

Oh yeah, maybe this is for ultra rich people who want the dorky press to give a hoot about how mahvelous they look beside their new trophy wife/husband or dressed in their new duds. It's all part of their paparazzi-seeking machinery:

"Oh, dahling, can't this stupid boat of yours go any faster? The paparazzi are drifting away and I want everyone to see how mahvelous I look in my new no-strings-attached bail out plan!"

On a forum, someone said about this...

"The scanning system uses infrared, looking for a light return characteristic of camera lenses and then switches over to a very quick burst of laser light. The power level is supposed to be below the eye damage threshold..."

Sounds like the basis for a new product to sell to paparazzi: a camera control system that protectively shuts down the ccd the instant it detects the scanning laser.

Arms race here we come. Oh boy!

Actually what started me off on this was I was searching for "horn rimmed glasses" because I did not understand why they called them that...

Then I found along with the search "anti-paparazzi glasses" which have reflective surfaces on them, an "anti-paparazzi handbag" and the boat above.

Anyway here is the handbag gizmo...

    And the anti-paparazzi search...
