Decreased RFID range

I just bought a Parallax RFID reader recently, and I had it working with an Arduino. Then I unplugged the sensor to change it's location, and when it was plugged back in, the range of the sensor was decreased from approximately 5" to needing to touch the card to the sensor to get a reading.
I switched everything back to how I had it attached before, and the range problem remained. I've looked at the serial and the power lines with an oscilloscope and seen nothing out of the ordinary and nothing else in the circuit has changed.
If anyone has any suggestions on how to fix this, it would be great.
