Forum still using the same old search engine? :)

If I search for the word "forth" in the forum I get zero results and this message:

The following words are either very common, too long, or too short and were not included in your search : forth

On the other hand, if I search for "prop", I get 20 pages of results.

Seriously? Can this be fixed?

"Forth", in addition to being the name of a computer language, is a common English adverb. So, yes, it's probably in a word list that bars its use as a search term.

    Try "propforth".

Given that its most common usage here refers to a language, perhaps it could be deleted from that list. I wonder if its been used in any other context in the forums. (Can't search for it, so we will never know.)

On Google, the phrase "and so forth" returned 5380 results when the search was limited to forums.parallax.com; "back and forth", 450 results. It's just an unfortunate choice of names for a computer language, I guess.

The MySQL Reference talks about this issue on this page. It seems that there is a fairly small list of words that are excluded at the database level. I'm still looking but so far, it appears that the database software would need to be recompiled to effect a change in that list.

[Update] The default list can be replaced without recompiling the database. Excellent. Now to remove the word 'forth' from the list....

    "5380 results"

Bummer, I would not have thought of that many occurrences.
