dc motor position control???

hey everyone,does anyone have any suggestions on dc motor position control?.i have 2 large dc motors with gearboxes (from mobility scooter or something like that) that i am controlling through osmc boards (http://www.robotpower.com/products/osmc_info.html) with pwm provided by pwmpal and bs2e on a boe. position control is not vital to what im doing but i wouldnt mind playing around with the stuff.any ideas or suggestions would be much appreciated,cheers.

Encoders come to mind. There are many ways to implement them.
