Test loose smt Prop chips for viability

Is there any way I can test these loose surface mount prop chips without soldering them to a board? I have 3 or 4 of them and I don't know their history. Can I measure resistance between specific pins to determine if they are good?

(Or do I just toss them and buy new ones?)

All suggestions are welcome.

You could probably make a test jig, maybe using the SchmartBoard version of a Propeller board along with some kind of spring-loaded plastic piston that would hold the chip against the board with enough pressure so it make good contact.

You can't just measure resistance between pins, you really have to power it up and try to make it operate. Then you can run a test program to exercise each of the I/O pins and check whether it works with a crystal.

Test sockets are available but they need to be soldered to a PCB and can be expensive.

I'd just use the chips. It's easy to remove them if they don't work using Chip Quik.
