I've got a lot of 3 channel helicopters and they are great for learning to fly and for learning to think in 3D, but recently I got a proper 4 channel one. I found it harder to fly initially, but easier as time goes on as you can make small adjustments when coming in to land, or to counteract a sideways wind.
These really are good value at $41 US including shipping. There seems to be a bigger LiPo than the 3 channel ones so the flight time is longer. And perhaps they fly more efficiently as they can move forward faster, so are flying through undisturbed air rather than hovering in ones own downdraft.
For all the people building quad copters, I suspect the flight skills will be similar, and perhaps this one could be useful for training?
I'm still not sure if I prefer mode 2 or mode 4, but I think the advice is to pick one and stick with it.
