Radio Shack seems to be getting out.....

Hello!
Radio Shack seems to be getting out of the business of selling Parallax parts and everything else.

Today I bought two more RFID readers from a store in Forest Hills Queens after confirming that the price was not the price quoted in their bin. It turns out it wasn't. I promptly bought the two. :scool:

Here's an even crazier one. That store recently swapped its manager for someone who had more common sense. There's also more people working there then when I last visited them.

    Digital Camera USB Cable #2600195 $0.37 (yep, 37 cents) reg $20 (?)
    Audio Y-adapter RCA to 1/4" $0.07 (yep, 7 cents, bought 2) reg ~$7

It's called the SPIFF list. Discontinued items get cheaper the longer they are discontinued.

Radio Shack seems to fade in and out of Parallax's sphere. Every once in a while they think that they can do something themselves and make tons of money.

Radio Shack has been moving out of the hobby electronics and radio market over the past several years. They continue to increase their focus on consumer electronics and cell phones. I doubt if they'll be able to compete in that market, and they'll either be bought out or go out of business in a few years.

They have great deals on clearance items. I picked up a couple of multi-band receivers for $35 a few months ago. They had a low-noise amplifier that is used for satellite reception for $5. I would have bought it if I had an immediate use for it.

It must be my RS, but they have MORE stuff than they have for years. They even have 38.6kHz IR sensors now.

The Fresh Pond Cambridge Radio Shack doesn't seem to have these specials. They also have the IR sensors as well.

Look for pricing codes where the cents end in 2 or 7. for example ... $1.37 ... $9.52 ... $13.97

This is marketing 'code' for items that are discontinued and most likely destined for the clearance shelf. Radio shack is not the only company that does this, there are several other companies that use this form of price coding.

Why is this info useful? ... In some cases knowing this, you can barter a little with the manager to get it for an even lower price than what is listed.

    Hello!
Izzat what's doing it? I picked up two more from a store in Rego Park also a RS one. Plus two of those light sensors. The guy who did the sale was moderately surprised to see me buying them. And quite happy to be told he was a credit to his manager. (As are all of them at that store.)

Sounds like RS copied wal-marts pricing scheme.

Hey Buck Rogers, I'm visiting RadioShack HQ on Tuesday to discuss some additions to the Parallax line in their stores. Though our sales through RS are on the rise the perception you mention might as well be reality - RadioShack certainly favors consumer electronics over anything you and I would like to buy.

    Hello!
    I see.
Perhaps you can convince them to reassert the ideas to continue to carry everything.

This includes carrying BS1s and boards, and BS2s and matching board, et cetera.

And they should be presented as available directly, not by means of placing an order.
