Dtmf: Mt8870<-->bs2

Greetings,
I've been a techie and tinkerer for a long time, but I'm still feeling my way around the BS2 world. I have a BS2 project underway that needs to accept incoming DTMF tones from a small radio. From that "speaker" output, the signal needs to go to the DTMF chip (MT8870DE) which must convert it (to a TTL signal?) and pass it to the BS2. The BS2 will interpret the signal and take action.
I've found a few DTMF-BS2 schematics on the web, but I'm hesitant to use them because they're not for the MT8870 specifically. Any resources, guidance, or comments would be appreciated.
