Where to find low cost lcd displays

I'm looking for some reliable low cost lcd displays in the 4x20 size. So far, I'm not having any luck. Does anyone know where I could find any? I would prefer serial displays, but they do not have to be. I have found cheap ones on ebay, but I'm not sure about their reliablility.

Also, is it worth a persons time to put a hitachi lcd controller on a display to make it into a serial display?

Farnell has some low-cost Powertip displays, I've got a couple. If you need a lot of them you might be better off with a distributor.

Most LCDs you will run across already have the Hitachi controller chip (or something compatible) attached. I have a couple of 4x20 white on blue that I got on eBay for about $20. A good serial backpack, the K107, is available from Wulfden.org.

You can also get the K107 bundled with a display for a very reasonable price.

Thanks! That was a big help. I found some displays I like, now I just have to convince my wife that I need them!

I have posted some pictures of my i2c Serial 2x16 LCD with backlight
in the Classifieds section for USD 15 each.
I2C 4x20 Serial LCD with backlight will be USD 25 each.
