What do you do when the Wife leaves for the weekend?

My wife is taking an upgrade course by correspondence at a University in Ontario. She had to attend orientation there this weekend so I find myself home alone.

So far I have watched 4 out of 5 of the planet of the Apes movies, designed 2 circuit boards, made a locket like the one in the Illusionist, and have only slept 3 hours. What do you do when you find yourself in this type of situation?

Find large primes and visit remote corners of the world via Google Earth and cruise ship webcams.

I have been jamming The Sopranos from the local video rental place, since I don't get cable TV I never got to see the series when it was originally aired. I just finished season 5.

Oh, and I've designed three circuit boards, one of which has one of the propmod-us modules I just bought, a nanoized protoboard, four Atmel 1 megabit EEPROMs, a bodhilabs vpack-pcb-aa, and 45 screw terminals -- on an ExpressPCB miniboard.

I take care of the kids and get nothing done on any of my electronics projects... not a good deal.

Some of us can identify. You have to tough it out. She has a need to grow which you know is important. There is no other person who knows me as well as my wife knows me. She's not at all interested in micros but she'll listen to me talk about this stuff anyway.

I wish my wife would listen to me talk about micros. she will let me talk to her occasionally about them but any more then 30 sec and she gets annoyed at me.

Luckily for this weekend no diapers. We have only been married a year and we have not yet had a kid.

Every time my wife leaves I have big plans...... and every time it's spoiled by some physical ailment....

    - Found out I was allergic to Ibuprofen: swelled up and itched for the three days she was gone.
    - A migraine for the two days she was gone
    - Stung by like 26 bees, took too much benedryl and slept for 27hrs straight.
    - The last time I mashed my hand and spent most of the time crying/whining/complaining

    Every single time. It's weird.

But, several months ago, she left to see family and I built my robot arm :) No sleep, working on a robot/programming while watching an X-files marathon... AHHHH! Bliss :)

Once you have a kid, you will be busy until kindergarden and then still. They're teachable for some simple electronics before kindergarden but you can't expect the world from them.

My mom is an accountant so I had a computer in my house at 5. That and the 30 in 1 electronics kit my parents got me for Christmas when I was 8 really effected my life and my love of electronics. Kids are a huge investment in both time and money but I do look forward to it.

Just finished movie 5. Now to see if I can make a worm and worm gear.

This is a funny thread :-)

You guys make it sound like it's a holiday when your wife leaves..LoL
(I hope they never see this thread)

I like to talk about micros...I can go on for hours.
But mention sports, cars, or hunting and I'll
    make a quick exit.

not a holiday just different. I love my wife and love being with her.

However I get a lot more done when she is not around. 8 hours sleep a night is not normal for me and it is easier to get things done when there is no schedule to when you have to eat, or sleep.

sports -- New Zealand All Blacks, Tri-Nations: 3 cheers
    cars -- 2010 Accord V6: a blast
hunting -- coyotes: you can't eat them, but they have nice coats after they've been eating gut-piles all winter (that's for later), and there's no limit

    Have a happy!

PJ we do not want to get rid of Holly. Though the TZero is a really cool car I am sure even Holly would like.

Our kids have been out of diapers for years now, but I am in the same boat as txmarsh and erco. A wife out of town equal a very tired single parent.

Not a holiday, Holly. When she travels there is a big hole in my life and I just fill it with other stuff. I really feel bad for the people whose SO's are stuck on long assignments where they don't come back for months at a time. My wife goes away for a week or two at a time. That I can handle. If she were to ever leave for six months she'd probably ask me for a divorce upon seeing the state of the house on her return.

My wife's contract at the hospital here in brandon is up next month. She will probably find a job easily in Winnipeg a 2.5h drive away. I will be in school for the next 12 weeks taking an upgrade course so she will probably live with her parents until I am done school and can move out there also. I am not looking forward to that but luckily we will be able to see each other every weekend.

yah electric vehicals are cool. I got to drive a Prius for 2 weeks when my sister smashed up the car I normally drive(was my parents car). Was a fun car to drive and was super great on gas.

Well it is 3AM and I just finished my 4th circuit board for the weekend. I think it is time to go to bed.

Let the 17 year old into the house that missed the bus and lost her keys. Shop food. Do laundry. Cut up the tree down in the front yard. Sell the scrap aluminum and dead FLA batteries that have piled up on the bed of my pickup for 5 months. Mow the yard. Mow the widows yard next door. Work on the nieces 17 year old Volvo 940 turbo. Update facebook. Read Harprits book. Order Propeller related bench consumables. Feed the cats. Feed the fish. (coulda knocked out two birds with one stone on those two). Call my wife and give her Smile (Opps, see left her ring here.) Sleep in and gorge on fun food. Scratch what ever you want when ever you want. Repeatedly fail to find a razor to use.

good thing I am not worried about my wife. Her rings are getting appraised at the moment because the insurance company wanted a new appraisal(even though I only bought the ring 2 years ago and had an appraisal done then). Not that I could say anything if she had forgotten them. I only wear my ring on weekends since it is a health hazard at work(some people call them widow makers in my trade - electrician).

No rings on her fingers!!! Sounds like fun for her!

I'm sure you enabled the GPS tracking on her phone before she left.

LOL. Unfortunately it makes the phone sluggish and very noticeable when you activate the GPS tracking on a blackberry. It is easy to do though unlike most other phones. It is nice that phone plans for blackberrys are almost the same price as regular phones here. makes it nice that we both have one.

After coming home from the EXPO last weekend, I suppose the "real" question should be ...

"what does the wife do when YOU leave for the weekend"

I was just kidding about the GPS tracking. Marriage is based on trust; With out it ,You don't have a marriage. This is a southern thing and its not metric, So you might have a hard time understanding it....(Damm Americans)

I am not American(unless you mean North American). And I trust my wife implicitly. The reason I know about the GPS on my phone is when we were engaged I lived 1200km away from her and I was trying to find a way she could see where I was on the 12 hour drives to go see her.

    Poopy Diapers.

I mostly travel and leave her with poopy diapers most of the time, so I can't complain.
