Using external antennas I have made transmissions up to one kilometer or so. (Thats with the older RF-transmitter and receiver, 27980 and 27981)
With beam antennas probably even better range as long as line of sight.

Depends on the signal strength. Yes, it is line-of-sight. You can get 5 miles or so on a straight line signal. Dee www.bigredbee.com

When Brian B talks about the 433 MHz RF Transceiver I supposed he meant the Parallax 433 MHz RF Transceiver, item 27982.
My reply was based on that specific tranceiver and according to the PDF documentation.
