Eliminate truncation on subject lines?

While keeping title/subject lines on the main forum index may keep things "short and brief", I personally find the truncatations too short, and make it hard to see what a thread is about before visiting the thread.

Is it possible to turn that off so the full thread title is displayed? I would rather see the occasional and brutally long title than the short and unhelpful title.

E.g., the title of this very thread is certainly brief and descriptive, yet you can't see the whole title on the main index. And the crucial part is not shown ... i.e., truncation of what?

That's odd. Subject lines have never been truncated for me and this one for sure is not cut off with trailing dot, dot, dot.

And why is the "Automatic vacation Fish Feeder" subject line in you little screen capture not truncated? It ends up being longer.

    Using Firefox on Debian here.

The automatic fish feed subject is not truncated because it's short enough, in its entirety, to fit the space allocated. Perhaps the proportion of the line given to this column could be increased. (It currently has a static width of 150.) There's a lot of blank space in the column before it -- at least on my 1440-pixel-wide screen.

I'm sure this is way down the list of priorities for tweaking the new forum, though.

On the main forum index, not on individual forum category indices. My monitor width is 1920px wide. I don't believe this is browser based; the forum app most likely truncates the subject lines and adds ellipsis before outputting final html to the browser.

And of course, it's just a small request :)

    I don't get it.

How come the subject line "Eliminate truncation on subject lines?" is not truncated with ellipsis added, as shown in the little screen shot, for me here?

It's not on the main index here? http://forums.parallax.com/forumdisplay.php?f=41

Presuming this thread is still the first one in "support for" category.

Oh you mean there, in the "last post column" of the thread index.

Sorry, yes of course you are right, I don't think I've ever bothered to read that column:)

I found the setting that affects this column. The site measures most of the width settings in pixels. This column setting is measured in number of characters. That setting has been increased from 30 to 40 characters.
