He and his team have now proven that no Rubik's Cube position requires more than 20 moves to solve :

Congrats to Tomas and his team!

    Excellent!

When these were the rage, I got below the 1:30 mark for random solves. 20 moves is amazing!

Probably would have to spend a day on one of the things now. Was fun then though. We used to take them apart, smooth the edges and apply lubricants. Happy days.

Absolutely fascinating. When I was in grade 7 the Rubiks cube was all the rage and myself and three others memorised the book and went around solving everyone's cubes. I think we managed to get it down to 90 seconds or less. Great fun.

Now, how many formulae do I need to remember to do it in 20 moves?

So... He solved the 3x3x3, but...

How many moves is needed to solve a 4x4x4 or 5x5x5 cube?

    Yes, they exist.
They're also too fiddly to use the old 'disassembly/reassembly' standby.
    (Don't ask how I know... )

It made the news and newspapers here in Oz to. #8'th most read, behind the hairdresser who has to give back 380,000 and the dead hedgehog that was painted over

    Great work, Tomas
