Is there any way to just block all incoming friend requests?

Actually dumb question, but what exactly are friend requests for?

I'll get these on other forums I'm on. People who I don't know will send me "friend requests", then about all you can do is click on ok.

Then I guess it shows up on their profile that I am a "friend" of theirs.

And I don't email these people nor do they email me. Not exactly what I would call a "friend", but if that makes their mop flop, then whatever!

So when someone sends me a friend request, am I supposed to click OK, then send them a PM and say... "What's up dude?" or maybe cell phone talk like "How r u"?

I disabled mine as soon as I saw the option. Not that I don't want or need friends, but I don't do Facebook either. Online "friend communities" have always seemed a bit shallow to me.

Brad, go to your User CP. You can disable it there.

I only see the option of disabling friend requests via email.

"If you do not want to receive an email for each request of friendship, you may disable this option."

    Is there another setting somewhere?

Not that dumb as I don't have a clue either. It's what woke me up to the forum changes when I received a friend request, checked it wasn't spam, wondered what Parallax were buggering about at, came to the forums and found they were gone.

It sort of lets you make a contact list of the people you might regularly PM. At least that is what I will use it for.

IMHO, the up and coming generations consider this stuff highly valuable. Remember, they are much more connected, and connected in more ways than most of us probably are. Anybody under 30 is very highly likely to be using these tools daily, and did not live when they were not available.

I personally don't mind, and will leave them on. No worries.

Usually they're for mail order brides... :)

Just for that BradC, I attempted to send you a "friends" request. :)
(Of course you've already discovered how to turn it off.)

I'm from the "Email" generation and have certainly turned in my "Fuddy-duddy" hat to try new things. No issues with friends requests, as I'll also be using them as a frequent contacts list.

Now, my 16 year old would simply say "I'm just an old person trying to look hip." :)
