no 16 pin socket on hand

Today I needed a socket for a 16 pin DIP chip.
Looked and looked, none found.

I pulled 2 pins out of an 18 pin socket and sliced some off the end.
It looks only slightly odd. Works fine.

Q: is this a creative flash or just plain crazy?

this is not a poll but opinions are welcome.

Roger, you're not crazy until you're down to zip-cord and X-Acto blades.

Been there, done that. Nothing wrong with trimming an 18 pin socket.

    There is no turning back.

Next you need a 16 pin socket, try putting two 8pin sockes end to end. You know your a real model builder when you specifically purchase 8 pin sockets for their ability to be used this way.

I always have some turned-pin SIL socket strips around. I can make up any size of DIL socket with those. I even made my own PGA socket with them, once, many years ago.
