Login issues

Under the old forum, I was regularly logged in on two machines simultaneously: one in my office and another in the shop. And I constantly bounced back and forth between them. Now I notice that when I log in on one machine, I get logged off the other. Moreover, and unlike the old forum, the record of the posts I've viewed is now specific to each machine, rather than to my user account. This is a huge annoyance that I hope there's a solution for.

Another thing I've noticed is that you can't view images unless you're logged in. I'm sure this can be fixed easily just by tweaking a setting on the server.

The "remember me" checkbox trick that Jim posted to Holly has solved the transient login issue for me. But one remaining is keeping track of which posts I've viewed, which is still done on a computer-by-computer (cookie?) basis, rather than by userid. I'm not sure why it would be done this way. After all, if I've seen a post on computer A, I don't need to see it again on computer B.

I haven't logged out since to see if images are still invisible to visitors.

I had to change my username to log into this forum. Although I am listed at TheGrue, I logged in with a different login name. I had to go through the change password routine to find out that my login is now TheGrue and I had to change my password.

It is interesting that my entire profile including my signature Avatar picture is missing in the new forum.

If you have a profile on the old system, you have one on the new system. Can you send an email to webmaster@parallax.com and include the email address used in the old member account? I'll use that to find the old profile and help you get back to that profile on this system.

Don't worry about it. The new forum knew my email address and allowed me to change the password. The password reset email is the one that notified me that my new login is TheGrue instead of kamuela. All is ok now. I will just set things up new.
