Another supplement, this time to Erco's post regarding
tin can robots. Don't overlook the use of plastic bottles for use in constructing
plastic robots. It's easier to cut than metal, safer in some ways, cheaper,
easy to find, and recyclable.

but the contents of the new (full) bottles are not generally as much fun...

To make this really work well, we need a DIY way to "recycle" this material into molded pieces:

    * Chop up the plastic source (for future melting)
** Could possibly use a "cross cut" paper shredder
    * Build a mold (this is the hard part - any ideas)
    * Melt and mold the plastic

Vacuum forming might also be a start, I don't know if you could soften a cut open bottle enough to form without having other problems.

Raw plastic bottles are somewhat limiting, they don't have the workability of metallic cans.

Right now I'm waiting on some silicone to arive. I'm making molds to duplicate some gears and other parts that one of my friends had broken in his bot. I will be making the gears out of plastic that has been recycled and will be melting it down to force it into the mold using a homemade plastic injector that I'm working on. Once it's all complete I'll post a DIY thread on this subject for you all.
