Hi guys. Quick question.
Can the module (BS2 IC) work without the carrier board?
like can i just take the module and plug it into a breadboard, plug in the power, and get it running?
or will i always need the... board of education thing?
-thanks.

You can plug it into a breadboard or your own pcb. You need to consider how you will program it and power it but it works just fine.

I always use basic stamps in breadboards.

I just made a handfull of little cables, so i can program them while they are inside
    the breadboard.

There are some pictures here of
    the cables.

The OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturer) version is a package of parts that you can use to build the equivalent of the Stamp module on your own PCB or breadboard using through-hole (larger) parts. You can also buy the main parts (processor, EEPROM) in surface mount form.
