USB programmer

Just went to start a new stamp project and of course my new laptop doesn't have the old serial port.
Is there a converter to change USB to serial or anthoer method? I don't want to have to splash huge money for a development board with a USB connection, its way too expensive to be worth it.
Thanks
Steve

·"If you build it, they will come."
Can't find one in the UK (not yet anyway).
I was looking at the one on this page...

Any ideas if that one will work?

One good thing about having an RS-232 port is that it is a snap to build programming plugs for many common micro controllers.
it was about 10 euro, has the ft232rl chip and works on mac and pc.
Here is a little picture
of it with a basic stamp.
Lets see if they still carry it, yub seems like it http://www2.conrad-uk.com/goto.php?artikel=971791
