Doug Dingus (potatohead on the forums) did an excellent article on the Propeller in the current issue of Classic VGM - it includes an interview of Jim Bagley (baggers on the forums), and a giveaway of 5 El Jugadors. Great article and magazine - good job Doug!

It's not in the preview confused.gif you have to get the full version to read it, although it's only two bucks. Doug's article starts on page 22, Jim's interview starts on page 27.

Yeah, the preview is a bummer regarding the Propeller material. It's generated early on, and the Propeller stuff ran close to deadline. Thanks a lot Nick for taking a moment to mention this issue. We worked really hard on this one. Best yet, IMHO. If you are into retro / classic gaming, the mag is a great read. We are one of the very few that offer digital and print. We also do back-story, community, interviews and other things in addition to simple game and hardware reviews.

I don't have permission for anything else at this time. Maybe that can change :)

Thanks a lot! It's a really fun production to be a part of. I like the home brew gaming and interviews. Retro / indie / home brew retro gaming on micros is a new feature we hope is well received.

    Thanks much potatohead and baggers.

These two people are both really interesting in totally different ways. Fantastic to see them team up for this article.

We are honored to have the Propeller as the subject.

Before I say anything else, don't forget Nick! He contributed some interview text, and made the Propeller gaming giveaway possible. He sponsored the contest with out even blinking an eye. That really changed the impact of the effort in a positive way. Maybe we will see a few new friends out of the deal.

Well thanks everyone! The nice comments mean a lot to me. That's a hobby of mine, writing, I've not shared much here --err, well directly. If one looks at my post length, the story is already told, I fear. Baggers has been a lot of fun, and the source of many a good Propeller / gaming related chat. Until now, he didn't know that those "pings", filled with some excitement, and programming smarts are a real motivator to me, as are the interactions I have here regularly. Love this scene. I really do.

I got word from my friendly editor that a Propeller Forum special PDF will be made available, probably tomorrow sometime. It will contain the Propeller related material. :) Mike is the editor, BTW. Good guy. If you enjoy what you see, drop him a line @ editor@classicvgm.com I think he gets us, and how this forum generally works.

I'll update here, when that's all sorted.

For me, this was a special treat. I love writing, I really love this hobby, and I've a soft spot for retro gaming / computing in general, and both Nick and Baggers are great people, who I enjoy conversing with. BTW: I'm often on MSN with the handle opengeek@gmail.com, if you want to ping me to have a chat there.

@Ken: Happy to do it. The Prop is such a great chip! It's not seen the gaming related love it should. Also, we were seriously interested in finding out whether or not the retro crowd was into this kind of thing. Many of them just collect and play, but there is a nice fraction, some found here on occasion, who get into it on the technical level as I do. We shall hopefully see good things.

If the special feature is well received, I will do gaming related Propeller news and hardware reviews in the magazine in the future.

"What's On Tap?" Is my home brew gaming related column. Some indie efforts appear there, if they are on "classic" systems, which are basically Dreamcast and older. Dreamcast is a bit tough, because it's still generally relevant, but it's been killed by the powers that be, and it's open nature has seen a lot of great home brew / indie game development efforts, so we tossed it in there. Home brew gaming is generally all about building fun works, sharing how they are done with code and other tech info, and play, build experiences with the community who enjoys it. I thought to connect the two, in that this community shares many of the same attributes, with a decidedly more tech focus. (and that's a damn good thing, don't read that wrong)

    (crosses fingers)

You can find a special Parallax Forum preview edition, containing the Propeller related material here:
