Looking for a low cost solution. “NOT ANY MORE”

This is a path change from my original post. I was doing my dreaded honey –do-list and I came across this display board. It has 5 7-segment displays, and a 10-segment bar graph, controlled by a MAX7219. And 2 talc buttons. It is the same height as the power supply.
Here is my post, looking for some great ideas to make it worth putting a $50 part in to an ATX power supply.· Let’s have some fun with this. I don’t want to have to lose my paycheck on other parts, so let’s keep it simple and cheep as possible. Remember, I am using a BS2, and I only know pbasic.

next to the three displays there is a spot for one more display. I am going to buy another display to fill the empty spot. there is going to be a total of 6 7-segment displays.

It came out of a handheld heart rate monitor. I got it from a garage sale about a year ago for $10. I have a display addiction; if it has a display on it I will buy it then figure out what to do with it later.

Well I have completed reverse engineering the display but my electronics knowledge is a little rusty (maybe more than a little). Could someone please help me understand what “Q1 and D1-D4” would be intended for?
