need simple interface circuit

Does anyone have an example of a real simple way to monitor a 120V line so a stamp can count the on/off transitions·?
I don't need high speed, waveform analyisis·or high accuracy just a simple way to count the amount of times during the day when the power is present.

    Put a light fixture in the line, with a light-cell aimed at it. When the light goes on, the light-cell indicates the light.

    Good idea, hadn't thought of that, I think I have a small relay somewhere too with a 120V coil that I can use.
