Just posted a couple videos from my UPEW presentation on YouTube...
Note that my volume production method uses a stencil, solder paste, and a convection oven, an entirely different technique (maybe something to show next year).
This method is for prototyping or low volume work.

Sure looks easy when YOU do it. But with the right equipment I suppose it isn't as bad as it seems. I've seen videos on soldering SMD devices and I looks like it could be fun. In a way.
Like doing 100+ pin packages. First tack one corner, then a far diagonal lead, the each lead down every side. Some flood then solder-wick it away. Seems wasteful, to me. But the results in the videos were amazing. Looked like it was automated process, yet done by hand.
I looked over my PTP board. Nice layout and solder job. Being put to work.
