Hi All

I'm using the basic Stamp editor with a usb to serial adapter. Every time try load the program it keeps coming up with error saying that the chip is not connected. The adapter is new just got in the mail today.

What wrong with it or am I doing something wrong?

The adapter is on com 8.

That for your help.

I'm going to assume that you are using a Parallax USB to serial converter or a USB Board of Education.· If not, there are only a couple of adapters that will program the Stamp.· A genuine Parallax converter is your best bet.

Download and install the FTDI/Parallax drivers, don't use the default Microsoft drivers, they won't work.· You can also go to the FTDI website to get the drivers, again assuming a Parallax converter.· Link here:· http://www.parallax.com/Store/Accessories/CablesConverters/tabid/166/CategoryID/40/List/0/SortField/0/Level/a/ProductID/378/Default.aspx

Check your battery/power supply, the Stamp must have power to be recognized.· Try a new battery.

Download and install the lastest version of the Stamp Editor, version 2.5.· http://www.parallax.com/tabid/441/Default.aspx

If you still can't get it to work, describe your setup.· Are you using a BOE or Homework board to "hold" the Stamp?· What operating system?· Are you using a laptop or netbook?· Can you try this on another computer?· What is your power source?· Is this the first time you've used the Stamp, or was it working previously?· Is there anything else on the board, look for a·short circuit or overload on·the supply (also applies to the Stamp's on-board regulator)?

    I hope this helped!

Yes is the Parallax USB to serial adapter. I have the lastest basic stamp editor V2.5 with drivers installed that came with the editor.

My setup is a bot II board with BASIC Stamp 2 Module. I have fresh recharged batteries. I have green light on the board and the adapter.

I dont know what to check.

Thanks for your reply and help so far. My main computer is a Hp with Windows Vista and my laptop is Toshiba with windows Vista. Tried both computers and none of them cant find the chip.

You may want to uninstall the FDTI drivers via the control panel, reboot without the Parallax board plugged in to the USB, (what is a bot II?), reinstall the FTDI drivers, without the board plugged in. Reboot and then plug in your board. You should get a dialog that new hardware was found, and the "It is safe to use your hardware".

Sounds like·a tech support question to·lynxmotion. That is not a Parallax product.
