I Want to thank John Raffensperger for controlling the the video feed camera for UPEW!

The live broadcast was the next best thing to being able to attend in person.

Also, I want to say a BIG THANKS to OBC, Ken and everyone else that made·UPEW happen!

I agree thanks John, someone should give him a PropScope for having to put up with us in the chatroom. The video was so nice to be able to watch when I had some extra time, I hope it becomes a standard thing for all UPEs!

I enjoyed the video feed as well and I also enjoyed the chat room. Thanks for adding this dimension to the expo.

Thanks for the live feed @ UPEW 2010

By the time I caught Kens post about the live feed, I only caught the tail end of Mr. Greens presentation on Femtobasic. After that ,the power started going on and off from a bad thunderstorm, I had to log off until the storm pasted.

I hope this video was saved and it gets posted some ware so I can watch it in its entirety.

Good call Zappman. The video feed was really useful. Thanks to all for bothering

Did anyone else experience flash (ustream's client) crashing several times? All I can say is never before has it been so worth persisting with a crashing ustream client. Normally I'd give up in frustration after a couple of shockwave/flash crashes. But overall its still a great addition to the UPE toolchest

I had a crash or two as well and my laptop fan went into overdrive because of excessive processing.

I hope some of these lectures are archived for future review. I'd love to catch them since I was sleeping during most of the event.

I suspect the crashing is more of a client-side Flash issue than anything emanating from Upstream's server. My entire browser (Opera) had an occasional tendency to crash if I paused or exited from the video feed.

On the whole, I thought the audio and video quality were excellent. Great work, John! A Ping))) on the video camera with an audio response unit saying, "Stand aside, please," would make a nice project for next year! smile.gif

I have the latest version of flash (10.1.?) installed on windows 7 and had no problems with the video. I had it running for several hours both days while I was working on lmm development.

Yes, thanks to OBC, John, Jeff, Ken and others behind the scenes, including some gals, I'm sure, as well as the speakers for allowing those that could not attend to experience more than a taste of the spirit of the expo.· I know that there were at least four continents represented among the online viewers:· No. America, Europe, Asia and Australia, and I wouldn't be surprised if So. America and Africa were represented, too, between matches of the World Cup, anyway.· Moreover, thanks to all the attendees for providing "atmosphere" if not "subject matter" and for the comments of the online viewers.· And thanks to those that will be cleaning up today.

    Phil -

Instead of using a Ping))), I am sure a reflective light sensor would easily detect the bald spot on the back of my head ;)

Thank you all for the kind words, and it was a great time for me as well. The time in the chat room was great. I was able to make the UPEW part of a two week+ vacation, and am currently still on the road in Colorado (near Colorado Springs). This is the first I've been online since the expo.

I have started working on how to improve things, and will be talking with Jeff (OBC), Ken and others on how to make the remote experience better. We have the following on the list of things to address. We likely won't have them all addressed for Ohio, but we'll work like heck to make things better. (Continuous improvement for those into "buzzwords"):

    * Audio: Direct feed from the amp system to the feed.
    * Mobile Video: We were unable to show some of the outdoor demonstrations (Quad Rover, Gatling Gun, etc.)
    * Separate feed for projected images (get useable imaging)

There are other items we're looking at too, those are just the main points.

Things we liked about the setup we had were the PTZ IP Camera. These have built in Pan/Tilt/Zoom that can be controlled remotely. I was not able to get it running, but there is also some "server side" software that will allow us to record, as well as set up an "auto pan sequence" to "stroll the room" during "idle times".

If there are any suggestions or request, please let us know.

Jeff and Ken: Thanks for setting things up, and being a fantastic host!

The flash client for ustream was a resource hog, and caused a number of problems at the expo. I think the thing had more memory leaks than Windows ME. We had multiple lock ups, slow downs, browser crashes, etc. We may be looking at other alternatives.

ustream.tv might be the solution to getting UPENE online as the bandwidth is limited in Norwalk.

Everything is a trade off, but yes, I will be looking for a variety of solutions to this.

One thing we talked about in the chatroom that we needed was a way to light up an LED so when no one was monitoring the chatroom we could be noticed if someone had a question. Now I'm sure a system like that would not get abused lol.gif
