I'd like to just control one actuator, what is an easy way to do that with the propeller ?
What hardware do I need ?

Bean

Use BASIC on the Propeller with the speed of assembly language.

Actuator, pressure source, valve. Some people use a sprinkler valve because they are not expensive. I like these guys for their parts. I find some in the used parts bin at my metal recycler sometimes.

Try www.automationdirect.com. They have some inexpensive pneumatic components.

    Phil,
Thanks, but I don't see any electronically controlled pneumatic values ?

Are a couple options. You can also check an local industrial surplus store or electronics surplus store which may have discarded pnuematics from factor automation overhauls. E-bay is another good bet.

Get a valve that is 12V or 24V and then use an appropriate driver such as a darlington array with the proper current rating. Some valves may draw up to 500mA when actuated, the smaller valves should be less.

Hmm, you're right, Bean. What an odd omission from their product line!

Pneumatic components are rather recent addition for Automation Direct... I understand more in the line will be coming soon.

Take a look at Surplus Center for good pneumatic bargins too. www.surpluscenter.com

    Bean,

I have been in process control for a number of years, but I'm not sure of your application. But if you just want to control a pneumatic actuator with a electronic controller all you would need in a transducer like this one http://www.controlair.com/transducers/550trans.html. It will take a 4-20ma or 1-5vdc signal and produce a proporational pressure out.
