The Sonar Sensor - Does it see "stereo" (two eyes)

Hi, I am thinking of purchasing the sonar sensor - for now, mostly to learn how to use it and build some simple projects with it. How does it actually work? I mean, let's say, I have it and point it towards a table with lots of stuff on it - a dish, a cup, a saucer... pretty much a real life situation. Does the sensor "aim" at one point right in front of it, or does it see in "3D"?

Read the documentation for the PING. There are diagrams in the documentation that show the beam shape and describe generally how it works. You can download the documentation using a link on the product webpage in Parallax's webstore.

    Hi there IceFirePro,

You might like the Stamps in Class Mini Projects page. Hopefully there are enough interesting apps there to keep pace with your curiosity for a little while! There are several apps there for the Ping))) sensor specifically:

    Detect Distance with Ping))) Sensor

    Ping)))-Dar Radar Style Display·(uses a Boe-Bot)

Scan and Go to Closest Object·(Uses a Boe-Bot)

    Have fun!

As a note, it takes two PING))) sensors to track objects and even then the object needs to be reflective of the ultrasonic burst. On an R/C Tank project I worked on I installed two PING))) sensors aiming forward at skewed angles on the tank turret. The turret could rotate toward the direction of the PING))) which lost sight of its object.

@Rich: ROFL. I guess you meant RTIM... but since people might confuse that with RCTIME, you used RTFM. Berry crebbah!

Well, Rich does have a point. The documentation clearly states the operation of the PING))). =)
