Trying to take the easy way out - (audio out)

I have just about zero experience with audio circuits, just never been interested, but now I would like to add some Big Trak sound effects to my robot using a wav object.

I am using the Gadget Gangster Propeller Platform SD which of course has an SD card but it does not have the audio amp like the Demo Board has. I can either use PC speakers that have a built in amp or I could use the little 8W, 4 Ohm speakers that I got at last year's UPEW (they were packaged along with other cords and stuff for $2).

A little bit of searching came up with a couple approaches, including this schematic;



There was also talk of just using a transistor.

I'm looking to spend the minimum amount of time possible on this because I've got too much else to do to get this thing working. What would be the best (quickest) way to get some sound?

LM386 - Buy one at radioshack if you can and be done in a hour.

(The circuit you have above will not be at all loud.)

Despite it ubiquity and DIP packaging, the LM386 is pretty much yesterday's news, IMO. The LM4990 is a much simpler chip to use and doesn't require the huge output cap spec'd by the '386.

I like the TDA7052 - much better quality than the LM386 and fewer components are needed.

You could try a pizzo speaker with 2 prop pins in push-pull.

Today while I was searching for some 14 pin sockets I came across a dead Demo Board. I'll use the audio amp portion of that for my robot.
