I was going to save this till UPEW, but I thought I'd share and perhaps get a few others cranking on
their robots for UPENE '10. Parallax robotics gear is up for grabs with robot winner picked by votes from the attendees.

While I won't be playing, the following videos might give you some ideas of what could win.

So, OBC, will this robot be roaming around the tables during UPEx presentations so that the people who don't leave the tables to watch the presentations can still see them?

Heh.. A good idea, but I suspect this bot will be tabled.
I'm a little worried about it getting trampled with this many (200+) UPEW people!

Any chance to see live or recorded video for those of us that will be 3000 miles away? There was some good stuff last year.

Isn't that what the sharp edges are for?

I will have 2 video cameras going as well as my Nikon D80 so there will be plaenty to share afterward.

@OBC, Nice homage to Star Wars...with everyone putting cameras on the robots I guess I never really thought of the robot projecting an image instead.· Makes sense though.· Can you image a home invader sneaking through your house in the middle of the night only to be faced with a holographic Darth Vader?!?

    Very cool OBC.

This is the perfect application for a laser-based projector. The advantage of lasers is they do not need to be focused, they are "infinite focus". So a robot wouldn't need to adjust its distance to the wall in order to give a focused image. It also means it can project onto rounded surfaces, edges, and corners... all in focus.

Other advantages: low power draw and no cooling fan.
