Scribblers in Frys CHEAP

Hi all,

I happened to be in Fry's in Atlanta today, and I noticed that they were on closeout for $39 ! Not typically being into the older BS2 products anymore, I still purchased what they had (5!) for some tinkering this weekend. Now granted, even though I'm tickled to death to get these puppies, I'm really interested in getting a Stingray. So....

Anyone interested in swapping 4 of these for a Stingray? (By the way guys... I would love to buy the Stingray at Fry's if I could)

Great find, too bad my local Fry's is sold out. Have to wait for S2!

Stopped by the Fry's near my house today and they have 4 at $39.90, new/sealed. I don't have $160 laying around, but if someone is seriously interested in one, I will offer to be the gopher. Cost is $39.90, tax is ~$3.25, and US shipping would probably be around $8. So, about $52 gets one to your door.

Erco, I assume you would be interested and will reserve the first one I pick up for you.

Andrew: Thanks for havin' my back! My buddy in Burbank grabbed one for me from the Fry's up there today, so I'm all set, but I bet you'll get interested parties here in the Forum contacting you. Thanks again, Bro!

Where are my fellow Scribbler fans Whit & Martin_H ?!!!

Hurtling towards some obscure Fry's in a neighboring state, utterly unable to post here or Tweet?

Although the inexpensive Scribblers are tempting. My next robot purchase will be propeller powered.

The latest PBasic Editor download from P'lax should be Win7 compatible, although not sure about the 64-bit version. See http://www.parallax.com/tabid/441/Default.aspx

Is there a 32-bit compatability mode that might be AOK? But you may be SOL on the Scribbler GUI AFAIK. That was buttoned up long before Win7 came along. But there is a Win7 GUI download for the BoeBot on that same page that may be somewhat useful on the Scribbler.

    Hi Brian,

The Scribbler software should work in your 64 bit system, it was only the installer that did not. So, we posted an "unpacked" zip file of the Scribbler software bundle on our website, you can just download and unzip it, and run it from the scribbler.exe file. This unzipped version also has an updated Observation Deck that supports virtual com ports higher than 9.

www.parallax.com/downloads, then hit the "Scribbler documentation" button. It's the second item.

Hey, I was not snoozing through the sales. The closest Frys is about 7 hours away. I scored two brand new ones as part of my pay for the Scribbler Robot Camps - they are still in the wrappers sitting on my shelf.

As cheap as these are, I'm starting to consider a Scribbler Swarm. Sort of a precision driving team. Sure, it will require encoders & proximity sensors...

We've see the the BoeBot follow-me parade: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hxMZQUKk8JU

But how about something closer to·the Tractor Two-Step? : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6WxyzS0vCME

    Fun to think about, anyway.

Unfortunately, Fry's won't ship these things, and the store locator won't even try to find anything in Pittsburgh - won't even find the closest store, just says that there is no store closest to my location! freaked.gif

Here in Pittsburgh, many roads follow old cow trails and there is a saying we sometimes use when giving directions: "you can't get there from here."

Frys·is not yet nationwide. Your closest store is in Illinois.

fixmax (first post) might ship one to you.

Sorry about the dysfunctional link - I didn't put one in my shopping cart. If I had done so, I would have noticed Fry's would not let you obtain one via web purchase. Before checking out, the web page gave the appearance of ordering as usual.

Yeah, I know that, however, as you said, Illinois is the closest to me - not there is no store closest to me.

Alas, I thought that there was one in Cleveland, not to be though...

I was just looking on the Fry's website today 6/16 for Parallax products to recommend to a friend and noticed this sale. It looks like most of the Fry's in the South Bay (Silicon Valley) still have stock. I stopped by one and picked up a scribbler for my daughters to play with during summer vacation. I think that the graphical programming should be educational for my 6 year old with some assistance. Maybe we'll have to paint or otherwise decorate the robot too.

And then when the propeller one comes out, the BS2 may need a friend wink.gif

By the way, the closest store to you is in Indianapolis, Indiana, not Illinois. And they still have stock according to the website! I guess I'll have to run by there on my way to work Tomorrow. smile.gif

Andrew, I was trying to get one in Atlanta area because I will be there next week. Trying to save on shipping cost. I have been really cheap lately!

Thanks a bunch for checking though. This group is great!
