I am thinking about using or buying some type of circuit simulation software and I just want to get a general idea of what others use.

I use the SPICE supplied with the Pulsonix PCB software I use. It's actually SIMetrix:

It's excellent, with very good support.

I don't worry about complex processor type simulation but for anything analog and digital logic I use the free and well supported LTSpice as there is even a Yahoo group for it.
    www.linear.com/designtools/software/ltspice.jsp

It's not crippled or anything and even though it's Windows based I have no problem with it running under Wine in Linux.

Have a look at a half-bridge circuit I simulated with it, the LTSpice file is at the end of the page.

I use LTSpice as well. Tina - TI is a pretty cute little program too.
