Does anyone experiment with magnetic levitation? I've become curious and I'm looking toward a possible project. I will start by learning about hall effect sensors.

I've been interested in this subject for a long time... I think I own a copy of nearly every levitation device that has made it to market. The last unit I bought was in kit form from Zeltom at www.zeltom.com . The kit sold there is available in kit or finished form and is the only one I know of that has any type of automatic control of the levitation via uC. You can choose to apply a sine, square or triangle wave into the control loop... this makes the levitating magnet pulse up and down with the characteristics of that wave form. You can also choose to have the magnet levitate in a stationary position. Check it out on the web page video... to see it is a better explanation. The folks there are all about education and help, not making money. They will provide e-mail or telephone help. A Basic Stamp may not be fast enough but it would make for a fun Propeller project.

You're welcome. Attached are a photo of each of a couple of my favorite levitation products.

Edit: Added a photo of the Zeltom unit too.
