newbie question-how do I connect propellor tool to propeller chip over usb??

Hello-
I recently bought and built the Parallax Stingray robot kit. I installed Propeller Tool 1.27 on my Windows Vista 64bit machine, noted that it was installing a usb driver, and connected the usb cable to the completed Stingray robot. I turned on the Propeller board in the Stingray, and I saw the green light come on. The manual says that the pc should find the usb device at this point. I saw no indication of this. In Propeller Tool, I press F8, or Run/Identify Hardware, and I see the message "No serial ports found". So, I thought I just installed the usb serial port when I installed Propeller Tool. I can find no information about this issue doing a google search, other than to install a separate usb driver, which I did and it made no difference. So I am unable to communicate between the pc and the Propeller Chip. Any help would be appreciated!
Thanks
bc

FWIW, I don't have any problems using the Prop Plug with Win7 x64.

When you plug in the USB cord for the first time, windows usually says "Found new hardware". If this is not the case, I would try a different USB cable from the PC to the stingray board.

Please let me know if this solves the problem. smile.gif

    hey computer guy-
thanks! that was it. I've never gotten a bad usb cable out of the box like that, but guess it happens. swapped out for another usb cable, problem solved.
