I believe each robot only has about·9 motors·to·power/steer·the wheels and·lifting mechanism, a camera to read bar codes on the floor and a wireless communication system to communicate with a central computer. Theoretically with x number of these you could automate any size wharehouse, that's amazing.

It's interesting that the lines and circles on the floor in the video are only the marks left by the robots tires, it's the precise location of the grid of barcodes and the data in them·they use·to navigate.

An updated and more detailed video on Kiva's robot-automated warehouse. The human/robot interface looks fairly well thought out. Whether or not it pays for itself remains to be seen. But the overall robots/laser/automation cool factor scores a 10 with me.
