I cry foul on this "revolutionary invention" that is apparently mind-bending to those who can't see that it is simply a planetary differential, and Prius' proprietary planetary PSD (say that 10X fast) has already done it better·: http://www.gizmag.com/steve-durnin-ddrive-d-drive-infinitely-variable-transmission-geared/15088/

The comments·posted therein echo my feelings. The power requirements·from the electric motor are neither trivial nor negligible. It amazes me that this guy is Gizmag's poster child. They just lost some credibility AFAIK.

Should we·partner this guy up with guy who was powering his car from water last year? smile.gif

I read "planetary differential" and at first thought it must be
some kind of mathematical calculation relating to global warming...lol

Re the guy powering his car with water..
I actually saw a story somewhere in the last few days that said it might be
possible to power a car with urine! Some stuff about how it was easier to
extract hydrogen and other stuff because of the uric acid and other things
in it. Yuk, Cars smell bad enough already. Wish I could remember where
I read that strange story. (Squat-n-Go)

Ha, I just went to google and searched for the story, actually found several.

But look at the cute retro game image they have up today for google. I love the [Insert coin]

Interesting mechanics, even if it does require an external variable speed input.

The torque thing bothered me, too, when I first read about it. Functionally, there appears to be no difference between it and a rear-end differential.
