40-pin connector/cable for PCBs

I know this isn't quite the correct forum to post this, but I am looking for a 40 (or more) position connector to connect two PCBs. I post this here because it is definitely the most in-the-know crowd, and I expect the quickest response here. If it helps, I am using it to connect my propeller (and many other things) to an auxiliary board.
I don't have too many requirements on it, it needs to be able to transfer (at worst) about an amp on a connection or two.
I want something that can mount to the PCBs with relative ease (thru-hole is preferable). And both cables and receptacle are easily purchasable from either Digi-key or Newark.
I prefer row connectors (like 2 to 4 rows), but a round connection could work as well.
Even just a name for what I am looking for (on Digi-key) would be nice. I see about 100 categories that could potentially describe what I am looking for. And most of the items in the categories I have looked through are non-stocked items.

Are the 2 pcbs "co planar", or at right angles?
Yeah. That is kind of what I was thinking anyway. 40 pins actually accounts for three power (total 3 or less amps) and three ground wires. But dedicated power lines sounded nice.
I was moreso thinking something in that formfactor rather than that part itself. Seeing as those have the same problem as all the parts I am trying to find: non-stocked at all of my suppliers. I was looking at IDE (PATA) sockets and cables for hard drives and the like, anything like that would work.
No one has done anything like this before on their PCBs? Someone must have done this at some point. Or posses some advice on how to execute it.

No, that would be too easy (I wish I had such an option). I have an old design that had through hole headers on one board and SMT pads on the other and had the 90-degree connection you are probably thinking of (or just two sets of SMT pads for the co-planar).

But 40 pin IDC sockets are so cheap (6 cents) thanks to IDE drive connectors. They will easily do an amp.
