PWM and Sound Detection

Hey everyone,
I am fairly new to Propeller functionality and I have a few questions. An application I am currently designing involves using a Propeller to pick up sound and then analyze the sound. It will have two modes, one mode will analyze the sound and display color based on picked up frequencies and the other will blink LEDs based on the "beat" of the song.
I have a few questions. What would be a good, Propeller friendly, way to pick up the sound? Does the Propeller even have the ability to analyze sound? How does PWM work to control RGB LEDs? Any information on analytical sound algorithms?
Thank you immensely for your time!

I believe Phil Pilgrim (sp?) has posted a program that does basic speech recognition...
