Matthew (my son) commented that he didn't think there was one time when the freebie table didn't have
someone circling it. (fun stuff)

What did you find at the freebie table?

I found a couple PIR sensors, some blank protoboard sized PCB's, a bag of diodes, and an interesting
Propeller board with video output? and a 2032 battery. (anyone know about this?)

I'll try to post a picture or two later when I finally locate my camera! :)

Edit: Rich was kind enough to bring me two C=64's before they became part of the freebie table! -Thanks Rich!

I got a few what I thought were PS2 sockets. They fooled me, in that they are full DIN connectors. Suggestion for next time: Better lighting over the table smile.gif

On the plus side, I got a nice 4 channel volume control that will become an X/Y/Z/RPM manual override control, a Rabbit Ethernet Module and some 90 degree headers.

I did pass on the roll of Bishops graphics slit tape. (click your heels together, and chant after me "I love my laser printer, I love my laser printer, I love my ....)

The 2032 battery is a 3V Lithium coin cell, I've got several of them. Don't try soldering leads to it, get a proper holder.

That reminds me of the everlasting gallon container of good old south-west of England Cider that kept turning up at parties when I was a student. It tasted so horrible that not even a couple of dozen totally drink students would drink it when the booze ran out in the early ours of the morning. Still, it gained someone access to those parties where "bring a bottle" was expected.

I did not hover over freebies all day.
    How many can say that?

I grabbed 2 (or 3) of the blank ProtoBoard sized boards.

Thought they would go faster. Perhaps they were resupplied during
    the day.

    These will come in handy.

Also got handfuls of loose chips around 9:00 PM.
    Still unidentified as yet.

PS: Wanted to move the FREE sign over to Rays table.

My freebies? I got a lot of goodies and all of the scraps! I have about 50 foot of telephone cable, 8 prototyping boards (blank), a large amount of LCD displays and a tube of 14 segments, a whole bag of chips, some circuit boards all through hole that could be on display in a science musem, parts from an old mixer including 2 cool looking analog meters, 2 rolls (each 1,000 pcs) of tiny SMD 3.3V regulators, 4 very smooth sliders (lateral pots), homemade power supply (transformer and decopling caps), a bag of ceramic caps, a roll of OLD resistors, relays, switches, 4 NICE on-off switches, 2 servos (1 worked!), 2 digital cameras (1 worked also!), lots of SMD parts (caps and resistors), 2 PIR sensors, and much, much more!!

I was the one who put 300 8 pin mini dins on the table, after I discovered to my own supprise that there was all but 5 gone, I figured that at LEAST 65% of the people that picked them up did it because of bad eyesight! (or just neglecting to look....)
If anyone want's to experiment with MIDI, I'll send you any of my remaining 400 connectors for free. Because speaking of neglecting to look, that what I did when I bought a lot of 800 of these things!

    I had a great time!

    OBC,

The Freebie table was pretty good to me this year. My son came running over to me with a 'bot frame in his hand and said that he had picked it up from the table for me.

It turned out to be the frame, battery box, modified servos and wheels for a Sumobot hop.gif I have never been into the whole battle 'bots thing, but I really look forward to playing with this frame - it is very near Zippy, the explorer bot from Marvin Green (Portland Area Robotics Society) and I have wanted to build a Zippy for a while - just never got around to modding any servos for continuous rotation. My new bot (which is about 2 days worth of work short of going on sale) has two servo connections on-board and I am going to try setting one of those up to run the Sumo.

I also picked up a Stamps In Education board for the BASIC Stamp II - will be ordering a BSII this payday so I can play with that.

Also found a small matrix keyboard which looks pretty nice.

And a bunch of other small stuff.

I am also guilty of not looking closely enough and picked up several of the "mini-DIN, keyboard connectors" - oh well, slightly better equipped parts bin now, I guess.

I'm glad that many of the 'treasures' that were found were things that I don't have a need for anymore, I tried to keep the table stocked with stuff!. I should have another box of stuff for Norwalk....
