Thanks VERY much for posting that!

I never dreamed I could afford to own test equipment like a logic analyzer or a storage oscilloscope. Even businesses I have worked for in the past could not afford to buy these tools.

    But now no problem!

    Bill:

You actually have access to a PC with a parallel port? Cool - stop by the prop forum and have a chat with the "retro computer" guys!

The lack of said port is beginning to become problematic not just for things like this, but also some of the home brew CNC machines. ( you can drive steppers, etc. via that inside out serial port looking thingy too)

As a matter of fact, I have an old Compaq (desktop) with a parallel port and a dot matrix printer connected to that with good old fashioned "computer room" fanfold paper! I can even print out those large banner signs using an old·DOS program.

And I have a few years old HP desktop with a parallel port too. Also a laptop, but that does not have either a serial port or a parallel port.

Mini-ITX motherboards are popular for embedded systems and often come with legacy ports (RS-232 and parallel port). Their CPU's aren't the most powerful, but they use little power and are cheap.
